Ex-Man Utd star Mata becomes shareholder in A-League club

Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has agreed to become a shareholder in Australian club, Melbourne Victory

The 38-year-old former Spain international has also committed to taking up an off-field role when he decides to retire.

Mata joined Victory in 2025 after spells at Galatasaray and in Japan following his departure from Old Trafford.

The World Cup winner has enjoyed a renaissance down under, with 13 assists and five goals earning him the Victory player of the season and being named the A-League's John Warren medallist, an award that rewards the competition's best player.

Mata's ownership commitments to the club will be separate to that of him as a Victory player.

Speaking to the club's official channels, Mata said: Everything fell into place between the club and me since day one and I have enjoyed my time here so much so far. Its as simple as that. I knew the history and the trophies before I arrived, but living it is different. The passion here is real, and so is the ambition.

Ive seen Australian football from the inside now, and I believe in the potential of the A-Leagues. Thats why Im keen to be involved in what I believe will be the progression of the game in the country.

PSG in talks over Leipzig's Diomande

Latest from Your Site News' Amar Mehta and Philipp Hinze:

Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with RB Leipzig over a move for Liverpool target Yan Diomande.

Your Site News understands the teenager has indicated a preference to join the European and French champions.

Liverpool had been willing to pay 86m, but Leipzig want significantly more.

Liverpool have been reluctant to go any higher than that, which appears to give PSG a clear run at the winger.

So far, PSG and Leipzig have not reached an agreement but negotiations are ongoing. The French club have a contract agreed with Diomande until 2031.

Irrespective of the players preference, a deal must be struck with Leipzig for the transfer to proceed.

Chelsea's 8m Xhaka bid rejected

Latest from Your Site News' Dharmesh Sheth, Kaveh Solhekol and Keith Downie:

Sunderland have rejected Chelseas 8m offer for Granit Xhaka, insisting he is not for sale.

Chelsea are reluctant to pay more than 8m considering Xhaka will be 34 in September, and they feel it is good value for a player his age.

Sunderland are aware of the midfielders desire to play for Xabi Alonso again, where he won the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen.

But they are in a strong position financially, and Xhaka has two years left on his contract.

Xhaka is the type of experienced Premier League midfielder Chelsea are looking for in this window.

He captained Sunderland to 7th and a Europa League spot last season in their first back in the Premier League.

Rangers agree Godfrey loan

The Englishman moved to the Serie A club from Everton in 2024.

He has been on loan at Ipswich, Sheffield United and Brondby since then.

It is expected there is a significant option to buy included in the deal which is set to be announced on Monday.

Aberdeen clinch signing of Moroccan striker

Aberdeen have signed Moroccan striker Ayoub Mouloua from FUS Rabat for an undisclosed fee

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth after completing his medical at Cormack Park.

Mouloua becomes Stephen Robinson's eighth permanent recruit of the summer transfer window.

"We have been tracking Ayoub for several months now and have made a number of trips to Morocco to watch him play and get a real feel for the type of player and person he is," said Robinson.

"He's a brave, aggressive striker who will give us a real physical presence in attack, but he's much more than that.

"He's mobile, works tirelessly for the team and has shown he knows where the goal is.

"When I got the chance to speak with him, it was clear he was hungry for the opportunity to join Aberdeen and take the next step in his career."

The move is subject to international clearance and visa formalities.
