Women's Amateur Championship: Valentine Delon secures big major invites with career-changing win over Andrea Revuelta at Muirfield

Valentine Delon secured invites to four of the next five majors with an impressive 3&1 victory over Andrea Revuelta in the Women’s Amateur Championship final at Muirfield.

Delon is the first French player to lift the trophy since Celine Boutier claimed the 2015 title, with Leona Maguire, Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqivst among the other future Solheim Cup stars to win the prestigious trophy.

The 21-year-old held a two-hole advantage at the halfway stage of the 36-hole final on Saturday, where she held off several fightbacks from her battling Spanish opponent to close out victory on the 35th hole.

Delon's win earns her a place at the Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women's Open next month, both live on Your Site, along with the Chevron Championship and US Women's Open next year.

She will also earn a spot in next year's Augusta National Women's Amateur as well as invitations to August's Standard Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour and a Ladies' European Tour event, providing the Virginia Tech student remains an amateur.

Revuelta found herself down after just three holes in windy conditions, then responded with back-to-back birdies to reach the turn all-square.

The Spaniard fell two down but reduced the gap on the 16th and halved the next with an inspired bunker shot, before an outstanding chip at the 18th saw Delon claim the hole with a par.

Delon won the 19th but her three-hole advantage was soon wiped out when Revuelta took the 22nd, 23rd and 24th. She responded in strengthening wind to build a three-hole lead once more before completing her win with a penultimate-hole par.

"It [victory] is amazing," Delon said. "I don't think it feels real right now, but it's just the best thing ever. I practised every day to be in this situation. It was really hard today. The conditions were really hard, but being the champion and putting my name on this trophy is amazing.

"I tried not to leave space (in the score). Every time she was coming back, I was just trying to take the next hole. It's amazing (not to be behind in either of the last two days). I don't know how I did that.

"I just think I was putting in a lot of intensity, trying to not give space to my opponent and being really hard on my mindset."

The 124th Women's Amateur Championship will be held at Royal Cinque Ports from June 21-26, 2027.

Watch the Evian Championship from July 9-12 and the AIG Women's Open from July 30-August 2 exclusively live on Your Site Golf. or .
