Super League: Wigan Warriors score 13 tries in 72-20 York Knights thrashing as Catalans and Castleford also win

Wigan Warriors scored 13 tries as they thumped York Knights 72-20 in the Betfred Super League with hat-tricks from Noah Hodkinson and Jai Field.

Adam Keighran converted seven of Wigan's tries, scoring one of them himself at the LNER Community Stadium.

Their struggling opponents spared themselves a shutout by scoring four late tries.

York coach Mark Applegarth is under increasing pressure with the result now an 11th defeat in 12 games for his side.

Responding to speculation about his future, he said: "I think in elite sport you always live with that.

"All you can do is control what you can control. I've always been that way. Some years you're flying high and everything is going right, but other years you've got to accept you're in the trenches."

Despite the win, Wigan's coach Matt Peet said: "You can't take it away from the lads that they were pretty ruthless at times and we've got that speed and skill to play and the lads were confident.

"I just thought when it was time to defend, I thought we could have done a little bit better."

Catalans Dragons earned their third win in four with a 34-20 victory over Bradford Bulls.

The French side stormed into the lead with tries from Zac Lipowicz, Josh Allen, Julian Bousquet and Solomona Faataape in the opening 40 minutes.

The Bulls then clawed their way back into the contest with two tries, but it was not enough with the Dragons securing a six-try win.

Dragons coach John Cartwright said: "The thing I liked the most about it is the potential in the team.

"I don't think we've got anywhere close in my short amount of time here, but we keep finding a way to win and if we can get some steel in defence, we've certainly got the makings of a good team here."

Castleford Tigers moved up to ninth in the Super League table with a 36-18 win over Toulouse - featuring two tries from Jason Qareqare - after racing into a 36-0 lead.

He was joined on the scoresheet by Tom Weaver, Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e, Zac Cini and Daejarn Asi.

Toulouse scored three late tries to ease the scoreline.
