Super League: Hull FC beat Huddersfield to end losing Super League streak as Catalans Dragons bounce back with win over Castleford

Hull FC and Catalans Dragons earned morale-boosting wins in Saturday's Super League action.

Two tries for Ethan O'Neill helped Hull end a four-match losing run at the expense of bottom side Huddersfield Giants thanks to a 36-12 win.

And in France, the Dragons responded to last weekend's heavy defeat against Wigan in their showpiece Paris fixture by seeing off Castleford Tigers 34-28 for just a second win in five.

Huddersfield remain at the foot of the table having won only twice all season, while Hull move above Castleford and into ninth, one place behind Catalans.

Huddersfield made the trip to Humberside on an even worse run than their hosts having not won since April 4, and an early score for Oliver Russell proved a false dawn.

The first half was tight, but home tries for Logan Moy and Jake Arthur established a 12-6 lead for Hull, and Huddersfield unravelled after the interval.

Arthur's kick sent O'Neill over for his first try of the season, and the forward's second came later in the game after Amir Bourouh had barged over from dummy-half on the hour and Harvie Barron also crossed.

Aidan Sezer kicked 12 points and a late Giants rally produced only a consolation for Connor Wrench.

Hull boss Andy Last told Your Site afterwards: "Hopefully it gives us a little bit of confidence getting a win with a strong performance. It just makes the whole environment a bit of a different place."

Huddersfield boss Jim Lenihan - still looking for his first win in charge - said: "At half-time we had a good position where we were competing OK, but we mentally let the game go.

"We're working hard and we're doing a really tough job, but at the moment other sides are working harder than us. We've got to stay in the game mentally as much as physically."

Temperatures reached the mid-30s in Perpignan as Catalans welcomed a Tigers side in decent form having won two of their past three.

But it was the home side who secured the points with a six-try performance - two each for Tommy Makinson and Solomona Faataape and one apiece for Franck Maria and Toby Sexton.

Ten points adrift at the break despite getting on the board through Jason Qareqare and debutant Jack Brown, the visitors fell further behind before launching a late fightback.

Joe Stimson reduced the deficit with a kick-and-rush score, and a double from Krystian Mapapalangi helped get them to within four points, but it was not enough.

Your Site will again show every game of the Super League live this season - including two matches in each round exclusively live, with the remaining five matches each week shown on
