MVP Boxing 04: Oshae Jones retains IBF junior middleweight crown after split draw with Elia Carranza

Oshae Jones retained the IBF junior middleweight championship against Elia Carranza after judges declared the fight a split draw at MVP Boxing 04 in Orlando.

The fight was a rematch that followed Jones' split-decision win against Carranza last July - but the reigning champion failed to achieve a more decisive outcome this time around.

Jones (9-0-1, 3 KOs) landed 34 more punches than Carranza - 101 to her opponent's 67 - but one judge scored the bout 96-94 to Carranza, with the other two judges calling the fight 96-94 to Jones and 95-95 respectively.

"I think I did great," Jones said. "I could have stayed off the ropes more, but it is what it is. I'm ready to get out of Florida ASAP."

In their last bout, two judges scored the fight 98-92 and 96-94 for Jones, but the third judge's score of 100-90 for Carranza brought what seemed like a clear outcome into question - with Carranza now calling for a trilogy fight to settle the score once and for all.

"You got to make it something that's completely undeniable, and she did not do that tonight," Carranza said.

"I definitely think that there should be a trilogy.

"I don't want to deal with it no more either, but the reality is that you got to do it right, and you got to do it fair. So, I'm ready to run it back."

In the co-main event, Tiara Brown beat the previously-undefeated Hannah Rapp by unanimous decision to retain her WBC featherweight title.

A close-range battle for much of the contest benefitted the reigning champion, who drew blood from Rapp in the eighth round and took control of the fight from then on.

Two judges scored the fight 99-91 for Brown and the other 97-93, giving her a conclusive verdict on an impressive performance against an opponent who boasted five knockouts in her nine career fights.

Lower down the card, Nataly Delgado picked up the WBA super-flyweight title, beating champion Jasmine Artiga by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 97-93 in her favour.

Estefany Alegria also upset unified flyweight champion Evelin Bermudez to claim the IBF, WBO and WBA light-flyweight titles by unanimous decision to become a new three-belt world champion.

Incredible body work throughout the fight capped off a superb performance recognised by the judges, who scored the fight 99-91, 99-91 and 100-90 respectively.
